We were talking about how easy it is for Latin, French and Spanish poetry to rhyme because of the many case endings there are in those languages and how difficult it is for English poetry to rhyme because it lacks case endings. I think the problem is deeper than that. The rhythms that are so enchanting in Latin and French sound silly and like doggerel in English. Shakespeare rhymed only now and then in his plays, while whole plays are rhymed in Latin and French and have that set rhythm that so add to their delight.
Rhyming summer? What a bummer.
